Joseph M. LaTona has been practicing law in Western New York Since 1974. A graduate of Rutgers College and Creighton University Law School, Mr. LaTona primarily concentrates in criminal and administrative law representing individuals and entities in disputes and litigation against federal, state and local government.
Mr. LaTona began his career in Western New York with the acclaimed criminal defense lawyer John Condon. They became partners in the firm of Condon, LaTona & Pieri, P.C.
In 1988, Mr. LaTona joined the firm of Lipsitz, Green, Fahringer, Roll, Salisbury & Cambria where he became Senior Partner in 1992. Mr LaTona left the firm in February 2001 to enter into a solo private practice.
Mr. LaTona was co-trial counsel in the Long case (People v. Gramaglia, et al: Erie County Supreme Court, 1978). In this high profile case, off-duty Buffalo Police officers were accused of beating Richard Long to death.
Mr. LaTona?s list of notable cases includes some of Western New York?s most highly publicized and most compelling cases involving allegations of fraud, conspiracy, murder and criminally negligent homicide. Mr. LaTona was counsel to the former Niagara County Clerk, George Maziarz from 1991-1993, lead criminal trial counsel to Buffalo Police Lieutenant Gregg Blosat in the Mark Virginia Case (1997), counsel to the former University of Buffalo basketball great, Maurice ?Modie? Cox (1997). He represented several sales personnel from Ingram-Micro in an income tax fraud investigation and prosecution. Most recently, Mr. LaTona was trial counsel to Jeffrey Kramer in the deadly automobile accident that occurred in Amherst, New York. Mr LaTona is currently serving as co-counsel in the pending case against Loretta Marra and Dennis Malvasi (James Kopp case).
Mr. LaTona?s practice has always included involvement in complex white collar and electronic surveillance investigations and prosecutions.
Mr. LaTona?s has achieved Martindale Hubbell?s highest rating of ?AV?. He has been selected as one of The Best Lawyers in America from 1987 to 2002 by Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith; Woodward-White.
Mr. LaTona is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, State of New York, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Court of Appeals-2nd and 7th Circuits, U.S. Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Western, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York, as well as admitted in the State of Nebraska. Mr. LaTona is also a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Erie County Bar Association.
